Özet
Healthcare is an important issue for humankind. During the last decades, significant progress on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases has been achieved. One of them is the invention of three-dimensional (3D) printers. These printers made our life easier and contributed to the medical education and our surgical practices. Another technological advancement is the use of different materials, hardwares, and softwares for 3D printing. Manufacturing of implants in different sizes and shapes provide satisfactory clinical outcomes after reconstructive surgeries. Preoperative plastic modeling of tumors and vascular lesions facilitates the understanding of pathology from the 3D perspective. In this chapter, the technical aspects of 3D printing technology and its contribution to modern healthcare will be briefly described in the first part. Then, detailed information about the design and production of medical implants, and their use in medicine will be provided. Recent developments on 3D printing technology to better and faster production of materials will also be mentioned. Finally, future perspectives and new horizons of this outstanding technology will be outlined.
