Özet
Objective: The monoclonal human antibody Herceptin, which specifically targets c- erbB-2 (HER-2/neu), exhibits growth-inhibitory activity against c-erbB-2 overexpressing tumors and is found suitable for therapeutic use due to proved survival benefit in patients with c-erbB-2- positive breast cancer. Recently, some studies investigated c-erbB-2 both as a prognostic denomi- nator and as a target of treatment in gastric adenocarcinomas. The aim of this study was to inves- tigate c-erbB-2 and p53 protein expressions and their relation to the prognostic parameters in gastric carcinomas. Current study aims to investigate the correlation of c-erbB-2 and p53 protein expressions with prognostic parameters.Material and Methods: A total of 54 cases with gastric carcinoma were evaluated for the c-erbB-2 and p53 expressions with immunohistochemical methods, and the correlations of the findings and the prognostic parameters were investigated. Results: The c-erbB- 2 and p 53 expression rates were 11.1% (6/54) and 74.1%(40/54) respectively. All of the c-erbB-2 positive tumors were intestinal type according to Lauren classification. There was no significant correlation between c-erbB-2 and p53 expression and prognostic parameters. Conclusion: It was concluded that p53 and c-erbB-2 proteins were expressed however they were not correlated with the prognostic parameters in gastric carcinoma. © 2011 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
