Özet
Objective: The complexity of the anatomy and function of the eyelids makes them difficult to repair. However thanks to loose surrounding area and rich vascularity, there are plenty of reconstructive options. The main aim of this study is to demonstrate the reconstructive success of paranasal flap which is a practical yet an unpopular option of eyelid reconstruction. Material and Methods: Between 2008 and 2011, paranasal flaps were applied in 12 patients who had various sized eyelid defects. Ten patients underwent lower eyelid reconstruction and two patients upper eyelid reconstruction. The follow- up period was between 2 months and 2 years. Results: Successful eyelid reconstruction without ectropion was achived in all patients. The donor area scars were well hidden. However the flaps seemed bulky compared to original eyelid tissue. Conclusion: It was concluded that the paranasal flap was reliable, effective and easy to apply. One can use the paranasal flap for both the partial and total eyelid defects as a form of anterior lamella reconstruction. The donor area scar is well hidden. Moreover in this study the paranasal flap was used for upper eyelid reconstruction for the first time. In those patients muscle function could not be recovered as expected. When levator and orbicular muscle reconstruction is impossible, paranasal flap should be considered as an upper eyelid reconstructive option.
