Özet
Thromboembolic diseases are a major cause of morbidity and mortality, accounting for up to 25% of all deaths worldwide. At the time of any injury, the hemostatic system initiates a series of reactions to actively stop bleeding. This process involves a complex chain of events that the body carries out to maintain a balance between bleeding or thrombus and normal blood flow. Thrombosis is one of the pathological consequences that occur when the hemostatic system is activated. Thrombi can form in both the venous and arterial systems. They can affect many different organs and tissue systems. Fibrinolysis is a process that involves the physiological lysis of thrombi by a number of proteins. A number of biochemical changes occur during both thrombus formation and fibrinolysis, and the data from these changes are used as biomarkers in the diagnosis and follow-up of thromboembolism.
