Özet

Introduction: Urinary tract infections are one of the most common problems encountered in urology clinics. Antibiotic resistance varies in time, and misuse of antibiotics enhances this process. Knowledge of antimicrobial resistance patterns of potential strains and causative pathogens may facilitate the appropriate treatment choice. Materials and Methods: 969 urine cultures sent from inpatient urology clinics and 9078 cultures sent from outpatient urology clinics between 2004 and 2005 were retrospectively evaluated. In addition, resistance rates for each pathogen were analyzed. Results: Pathogens were isolated in 253 of 969 (26%) urine cultures sent from inpatient clinics and 982 of 9078 (10.8%) urine cultures sent from outpatient clinics. 49% of pathogens isolated from the cultures of inpatient clinics were Ecoli, 4% were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and 13% were Staphylococcus aureus. Pathogens isolated from the cultures of outpatient clinics were E.Coli (61%), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (4%), and Staphylococcus aureus (13%). Resistance to ciprofloxacin, the most widely used antibiotic of urology practice, was 70% in inpatient clinics and 38% in outpatient clinics. This incidence was 46% and 18% for gentamycin, 61% and 23% for cefuroxime, 31% and 18% for nitrofurantoin, 66% and 55% for trimethoprim- sulphamethoxazole. Conclusion: According to us, resistance to the antibiotics frequently used for ampiric treatment of UTI was found to be higher than expected, For this reason every doctor should follow the advances closely to keep their knowledge about bacterial susceptibility and treatment cost fresh and should use latest information while choosing antimicrobial agents and should know the local flora of the region that he works.
