Özet
The study was performed on 40 subjects of ASA I and II, suffering from nausea and vomiting in recovery room, in the postoperative period. Subjects with these complaints were randomly divided into two groups. Group I subjects (propofol group n: 20) were given subhyphotic dose (1 ml=10 mg) propofol intravenously at the time of nausea and the group II subjects (placebo group n: 20) were given saline 1 ml intravenously. During the study period, subjects were given oxygen 2 It. min-1, via face mask. Heart rate, mean arterial pressure and peripheral oxygen saturation were monitored and the data were recorded. The sedation levels of the subjects following the intravenous drug administration were evaluated according to the somnolence scores. In group I, the rate of subjects recovered from nausea and vomiting were 15 of the 20. But in the following thirty minutes nausea and vomiting were occurred again in three of the fifteen subjects. In group II the rate of subjects recovered from nausea and vomiting spontaneously were 3 of the 20. The difference between two groups was statistically significant (p < 0.05). In both groups no significant hemodynamic and oxygen saturation changes was observed. In group I, 3 subjects suffered from pain in the injection site after the propofol administration. In conclusion, subhypnotic dose propofol may be effective in treatment of nausea and vomiting in the postoperative period without any serious side effects.
