Özet
Recent radiological accidents or attacks have raised concerns about the preparedness of hospitals for radiological emergencies. Emergency departments must be ready to manage patients presenting with radiation exposure or contamination with radioactive substances. These injuries can affect a single individual or lead to mass casualties. In scenarios involving a large number of injured individuals, preventing hospital contamination becomes critical. Proper organization outside the hospital, triage, and accepting patients into the emergency department only after decontamination are essential. Therefore, every hospital must have a Radiological Emergency Medical Response Plan. Treating lifethreatening or severe traumatic injuries should take precedence over addressing radiation-related issues. By employing universal precautions, the risk of radioactive contamination to healthcare personnel (HCP) in the ED can be minimized. HCP must be proficient in using personal protective equipment, ensure patients are decontaminated before entering the emergency department, and maintain isolation within the department. Admission and isolation of patients should be determined based on measurements of their radiation levels. This study aims to discuss the management and isolation of patients with radiological injuries.
