Özet
Bronchiolitis is an acute viral lower respiratory tract infection in infants and young children. Many viruses that affect the respiratory system can cause bronchiolitis. Although the prevalence of these viruses varies by geographic region and year, RSV is the most common and rhinovirus the second. It is mild and self-limiting in most children; however, it can be severe in infants under 6 months of age in particular. Bronchiolitis is a clinical diagnosis based on history and physical examination. Laboratory tests and chest radiography are not routinely recommended. Recurrent bronchiolitis must be distinguished from a variety of infectious and noninfectious conditions. Maintaining adequate hydration is very important in bronchiolitis, and bronchodilator therapy is not recommended in many guidelines.
