Özet
Recently, with climate changes and global temperature increases, heat waves have been more common. The number of emergency department visits and mortality rates has increased due to heat emergencies during extreme heatwaves. Heat-related illnesses can occur in a wide spectrum of clinical disorders that can be corrected with simple measures such as heat edema or heat cramps to life-threatening heatstroke. In addition to individuals who are dependent on others, such as the elderly or bedridden people who cannot take the necessary precautions, healthy individuals such as young athletes and workers who must stay in a hot environment for a long time can also be affected. For this reason, healthcare professionals who care for patients from all age groups should be aware of heat illnesses, especially during heat waves, and be familiar with risk factors and emergency treatment. In this section, the pathophysiology, epidemiology and risk factors, characteristics, and management of heat illnesses are reviewed.
