Investigation of death anxiety, successful ageing, spiritual well-being and life satisfaction in older adults

Özet
This study aims to investigate the correlations between the variables of successful aging, death anxiety, life satisfaction, and spiritual well-being in older adults and present the effects of the variables on each other. The population of the study consisted of older adults who were living in Ankara, Turkey. The data were collected from 1244 people by the survey method and analyzed by various statistical methods. The correlation analysis showed that there was a low negative correlation between death anxiety and successful aging, a low positive correlation between life satisfaction and successful aging, and a low negative correlation between life satisfaction and death anxiety. While a moderate positive correlation was found between spiritual well-being and successful aging, a low negative correlation was found between spiritual well-being and death anxiety. The path analysis showed that successful aging accounted for 3.7% of the change in death anxiety, 22.5% of the change in life satisfaction, and 19.3% of the change in spiritual well-being. Furthermore, it revealed that death anxiety accounted for 6.2% of the change in life satisfaction and 4.1% of the change in spiritual well-being.
