Özet

Objective: To reveal the relations between demographic, clinical and radiological findings and quality of life (QoL) measurements and the interrelations between appropriate criterions in knee osteoarthritis (OA). Material and Methods: A total of 80 patients (mean 56.06 ± 6.02 years) and 40 controls (mean 54.57 ± 6.22 years) at the age range of 45-65 years old were included. Demographics like age, gender, education level, and disease duration and co-morbidities were recorded. Following goniometric range of motion (ROM) measurements, 2-way knee radiographies were staged according to the Kellgren-Lawrence criterion. The 10-cm visual analog scale (VAS) was used for pain. The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) was used for evaluating pain, joint stiffness, and physical functions. The functional capacity and QoL were evaluated with the 6-minutes walking test (6MWT) and the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form (SF-36), respectively. Results: In the patient group, the body mass index (BMI) was 30.91 ± 4.59 kg/m2 while being 24.45 ± 3.37 in the control group, the difference between groups was significant (p < 0.01). In medical history, hypertension (HT), gastrointestinal tract diseases (GITD), and diabetes mellitus (DM) were frequent in both groups and there was no significant difference in terms of morbidity (p > 0.05). QoL measurements revealed that in all SF-36 subgroups except mental health and all WOMAC subgroups, there were significant differences between patient and control groups. In the patient group, WOMAC-pain, stiffness, physical function parameters, and all SF-36 parameters except mental health were positively correlated with age, VAS-pain, symptom duration, and the Kellgren-Lawrence score, while there were negative correlations among the flexion angles of the right and left knee, and 6MWT. Conclusion: In knee OA, factors demonstrated to be related to QoL were age, severity of pain, disease duration, knee ROM, individual performance, and the radiological stage.
