Özet
The term sinusitis indicates inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, while rhinosinusitis also includes inflammation affecting the internal nasal cavity. Acute rhinosinusitis (ARS) has a duration of less than 28 days and is usually the result of coryza secondary to infection with a virus. It is often difficult for general practitioners to differentiate ARS secondary to coryza or influenza-like episodes from a bacterial infection. This chapter covers ARS secondary to both viruses and bacteria, in their presentation and diagnostic aspects, and outlines therapy in each case [1].
