Özet
The urine samples taken from 303 women applying as outpatients to Gynecology and Obstetric Polyclinics for either gynecologic examination or for evaluation of complaints related to urinary tract infection were studied by means of standard culture processes. The biotyping of 61 coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS) species were made using a custom-made computer program based on Baesian approach. We have found S. epidermidis (44.3%) S. hominis (16.4%), S. saprophyticus (8.2%), S. haemolyticus (6.5%) as the most frequent CNS. The examination of these 61 CNS species for the presence of factors which are criteria for pathogenicity showed slime factor positivity in 30 (50%), gelatinase positivity in 20 (32.84%), protein A positivity in 27 (44.2%) and capsule positivity in 36 (60%). The number of CNS species positive for all of the four pathogenicity criteria were found as 19.7%. In the Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion antibiotic susceptibility test, the most effective antibiotics for these group of CNS species were determined as vancomycin (90.3%), cefuroxime (88.7%), cephalotine (85.5%), methicilline (83.9%), amoxicilin-cavulanic acid (83.9%) respectively.
