Özet
Urinary tract infections are one of the most common infections observed in healthcare providers. Although common in women of reproductive age, urinary tract infections affect individuals of all ages and of both genders. Since urine culture is not necessary to diagnose uncomplicated acute urinary tract infections, patients often recover with empirical antibiotic therapy. In empirical treatment, local and regional antibiotic resistance patterns should be considered. In complicated urinary tract infections, a urine culture is necessary for diagnosis and treatment. A wide range of diagnoses ranging from asymptomatic bacteriuria to bacteremia, as well as the frequent use of indwelling and intermittent urinary catheters, materials used inside the ureter (stents, etc.), and new recommendations for geriatric and hemiplegic patient groups, are available in the guidelines today.
