Özet
Objective To investigate public interest in anti-rheumatic drugs during the COVID-19 pandemic using Google data. Materials and Methods We selected search terms releated anti-rheumatic drugs such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), glucocorticoids, antigout agents, conventional disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs, immunosuppressive agents, interleukin (IL) 1-6-17inhibitors, tumornecrosis factor inhibitors. On Google Trends, we searched for 78 search queries within Turkey, in “All categories” between 15/03/2016-26/12/2020. We compared the time intervals ‘March 15-July 4’ and ‘July 5-December 26’ with the same time intervals of the previous 4 years (2016-2019). Results When we compare the queries in COVID-19 pandemic with the previous 4 years; we observed that; 15 of 78 search queries (Advil, Brufen, diclofenac, Cataflam, Voltaren, Dolorex, Naprosyn, Apranax, Melox, Exen, Colchicine, hydroxychloroquine, Plaquenil, Arava, Actemra) showed statistically significant increase, 21 queries decrease in early period. In later period, 19 of 78 queries (ibuprofen, Brufen, Cataflam, Voltaren, Dolorex, Naprosyn, Apranax, Melox, Exen, Prednol, De-cort, Colchicine, Kolcin, hydroxychloroquine, Plaquenil, tocilizumab, Actemra, anakinra, Kineret) showed significantly increase, 17 queries showed decrease. Conclusion In the early and later periods of the COVID-19 pandemic; significant increases were found in the search volume of hydroxychloroquine and its brand name Plaquenil, tocilizumab and its brand name Actemra and in the majority of NSAID group search quries. In both periods, drugs with reduced search volüme are mostly in the category of immunosuppressive drugs and biological agents. These findings suggest that the public wants to learn about the treatment of COVID-19 and search on the Internet. Understanding the requirements of the public and providing the necessary information might be useful in the management of the process.
