Özet
Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) which is used in the treatment of solid tumors, some hematologic, neurologic, metabolic and autoimmune diseases can be operated autologous (involving tissues or cells that are genetically similar) or allogeneic (involving tissues or cells that are genetically dissimilar). Healthy T-lymphocyte-mediated acute or chronic graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD) according to stem cells taken from a donor can result in severe immunological reaction characterized by organ dysfunction may be seen after HSCT. This complication is considered as the most important cause of morbidity and mortality. Determining nutritional status and improving by nutritional support is essential in order to reduce complications (vomiting, diarrhea, oral mucositis, anorexia), accelerate the healing process, prevent rejection, support emerging hematopoiesis and prevent GVHD. For this purpose, total parenteral or enteral nutrition or combined options should be considered when oral feeding is not enough. The patient's energy, protein, lipid, carbohydrate, vitamin and mineral requirements must be provided. Recent studies reported favourable effects of omega-3 fatty acids, glutamine, vitamin D and prebiotics/probiotics.
