Levels of Hope and Hopelessness in Students Educated in Health Sciences Saglik Alaninda Ogrenim Goren Ogrencilerin Umut ve Umutsuzluk Duzeyleri

Özet
Objective: The aim of this study is to compare the hopelessness level of students who are being educated at the most commonly preferred health faculties of Turkey and to investigate their occupational awareness level and occupational concerns. Materials and Methods: A total of 470 final year students who were being educated at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, Dentistry School, and Nursing School were included in the study. The "Personal Information Questionnaire," which was prepared by the researchers, was used and the "Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS)" was used to determine the hopelessness level. Results: The Faculty of Health Sciences students were concerned about finding a job and thought that their prestige of profession is not sufficient. The students who felt most inadequate in terms of their profession were found to belong to the Faculty of Pharmacy. When the job-finding anxiety caused by the increase of quota was investigated, the number of students who thought that there were more number of graduates than needed and that the degree of employment was insufficient was found to maximum in the most worried faculty, i.e., Pharmacy. According to the total BHS score, a significant difference was found between the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Dentistry (p=0.03), and the Faculty of Nursing (p<0.001). Conclusion: It was found that BHS score of the students of Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, and Dentistry students was "mild hopelessness" and Nursing Faculty students was "moderate hopelessness." In our study, it was determined that students' job anxiety, professional awareness, and hopelessness level showed differences between faculties.
