Özet
In this study, we evaluated short and long term results of Interferon treatment in 57 patients with chronic hepatitis C. All patients had biopsy-proven chronic active hepatitis before starting interferon therapy. 23 patients were treated with 3 MU of IFN α2b by subcutan injection, three times weekly for 12 months and 34 patients were treated with 6 MU of IFN α2a by subcutan injection three times weekly for 12 months. Eighteen (%33.3) patients had a complete treatment response and two had incomplete response at 12 months after the interferon treatment. Thirty-four patients were nonresponders. One patient at 18 months and two patients at 24 months had relapsed. The average total HAI score of complete responders was 12.1 and the fibrosis score was 2.2 before treatment, 9.2 and 1.6 respectively after treatment. Eleven patients of complete responders received 3 MU interferon and seven patients of complete responders received 6 MU interferon. The average total HAI score of incomplete two patients was 9.1 and fibrosis score was 2.1. There was no difference in HAI scores of incomplete responder patients after treatment. In conclusion, the low dosing regimen of 12 months interferon treatment in chronic HCV hepatitis is effective and suitable treatment modality. However, low sustained response rate following the treatment requires to develop new therapeutic options.
