Özet
Phytoestrogens (PEs) are natural compounds found in plants that share both structural and functional similarities with the estrogens found in mammals. These substances have been associated with a variety of health benefits in humans. PEs may act as estrogen agonists or antagonists, depending on their concentration and bioavailability in different plant sources. Research has explored the potential use of PEs as an additional, conventional hormone replacement therapy in addressing conditions such as menopausal vasomotor symptoms, breast cancer, cardiovascular disease, menopausal discomfort, and promoting bone health. Over the last few decades, there has been a substantial increase in the number of scientific articles published on phytoestrogens. Ongoing studies are uncovering the intricate biological actions of phytoestrogens, which encompass several distinct chemical classes and operate through various mechanisms.
