An investigation of insulin resistance with the hyperinsulinemic euglycemic clamp technique in young patients with coronary artery disease

Insulin resistance has an important role in the pathogenesis of risk factors for coronary artery disease (CAD) such as hyperinsulinemia, glucose intolerance, obesity and dyslipidemia. The aim of the present study was to investigate the presence of insulin resistance in patients with premature CAD by mean of the hyperinsulinemic euglycemic glucose clamp technique in 16 male patients with CAD and in 16 male healthy controls. All were younger than 35 years. Glucose uptake (M), serum lipids, fibrinogen, uric acid, insulin and C-peptide were also measured. In our study, the mean M value was 4.37±1.1 mg/kg/min in the patient group, and 7.9±1 mg/kg/min in the control group.
