Özet

Intranasal drug delivery systems for the transition to the central nervous system, which are an alternative to invasive methods, have recently gained significant attention as the route of passage of therapeutic agents, preferably to the brain. Although it appears to be transmitted directly to the brain in this way, the mechanisms governing overall brain uptake and exposure remain unclear. Some active ingredients use the olfactory nerve pathway and provide direct access to the brain, thus bypassing the blood-brain barrier (BBB). However, most pharmacological agents gain access to the brain through the olfactory epithelium, which represents a more direct uptake pathway. There are different approaches to analyzing whether active substances and nanoparticles can pass through the brain barrier. All methods differ from each other in terms of data obtained, cost, and method difficulty. In this section, the first suggestive in vitro models of substances passed through intranasal applications of both conventional dosage forms and nanomaterials will be discussed at the experimental stage.
