Özet
Chronic kidney disease is a common clinical condition related to a remarkable comorbidity burden resulting from polypharmacy. Underlying diseases related to chronic kidney disease (CKD) like diabetes and hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, infections, cerebrovascular diseases, and cancers all are responsible for immoderate pharmacotherapy in this patient population. Patients with CKD are also vulnerable to medication-related side effects since more than half of drugs, particularly water-soluble ones, and their metabolites, are eliminated by the kidneys. Beyond the drug-related side effects, patients with kidney diseases are prone to the progression of injury and metabolic derangements from these medications, which can worsen the disease course. The scope of safe medication use in CKD differs according to the stage of CKD, renal replacement therapy modality, and dialysis intensity. The pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics of drugs should be kept in mind while prescribing medications too. The accurate estimation of kidney function is also a critical step in medication prescription for kidney disease patients.
