Özet
Iliac hernias have been defined by the European Hernia Society (EHS) as those falling between a horizontal line 3 cm below the umbilicus and the inguinal region. These incisional hernias are much less common than midline hernias; they often occur at colostomy sites. Challenges faced by surgeons when addressing iliac hernia repair include the scarcity of aponeurotic tissue in the lateral abdominal wall and the proximity to the iliac crest, which creates difficulty in obtaining adequate mesh overlap and increases risk of injury to nearby neurovascular structures.
