Özet

Objective: Vitamin supplementation in pregnant women is important for obstetric outcomes. In our province, meat is commonly consumed and our city has plenty of sunny days. So, we do not know how much these pregnant women need the supplementary foods recommended in the national guidelines. Therefore, in our study we investigated the hemoglobin, ferritin, B12, folate and vitamin D levels and their need for support of pregnant women in our province. Material and Methods: Data of 17845 pregnant women who applied to Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic of between June 2018 and December 2018 were analyzed. The study included 200 pregnant women who did not use supplementary drugs and who required hemoglobin, ferritin, B12, folate and vitamin D in the first trimester. Demographic characteristics of pregnant women were determined by descriptive statistical methods. Pregnant women were grouped according to the time interval between two births and hemoglobin, ferritin, B12, folate and vitamin D concentrations. Results: While hemogram, ferritin, vitamin B12 and folate concentrations were within normal limits, vitamin D levels were significantly lower (below 20 ng / mL) in all pregnants included in the study regardless of the previous pregnancy. In addition, B12 levels were significantly lower in pregnant women under 26 years of age. Conclusion: Vitamin D deficiency is a common health problem in our province and it is a hidden risk factor for pregnant women living in our region where sunny days are common. In addition, vitamin B12 supplementation should be evaluated preconceptively even in areas where animal based diet is common, especially in the younger patient group, as it plays a role in the etiology of neural tube defect.
