Özet
Nine patients with popliteal artery aneurysm were operated on at Erciyes University Medical School, Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery between 1978 and 1997. Of them, 8 (%88.9) were male and 1 (%11.1) was female and the mean age was 65.8 years (53-85). Seven patients with a complaint of pressure in the popliteal area and two patients with ischemic pain received the diagnosis after a physical examination, ultrasonography and angiography. Aneurysmectomy and graft interposition in 7 patients and ligation and bypass in 2 patients were performed. Otogenous vein interposition was the most used surgical method. Over-knee amputation was performed in one case with acute ischemic symptoms who referred at a very late stage (11.1%). Popliteal artery aneurysms are frequently encountered and may cause the loss of lower extremities although they can successfully be treated with elective surgery.
