Özet
Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a well-established treatment approach for a wide range of diseases. Allo-HSCT has now reached modern care with a deeper understanding of immunology, managing factors and risks related to patient, donor and stem cell sources. Peripheral blood stem cells are the most commonly utilized stem cell source. Human leukocyte antigen (HLA) matching has still been considered to have the greatest influence on transplant outcomes; however, in the case of multiple HLA-matched donors, additional criteria such as cytomegalovirus serology, blood type, age, gender, and nulliparity should be evaluated. Transplant indications vary largely regarding the disease, remission status, and number and access to alternative treatment. Conditioning regimens are also a significant factor for the success of the transplant and also transplant-related mortality with reduced intensity regimens are gaining popularity to provide access to older patients. Predicting and managing transplant-related complications are now part of allo-HSCT care such as cytomegalovirus, BK virus, and graft versus host disease surveillance.
