Pain treatment in cancer patients: A retrospective evaluation of five years Kanserli olgularda agri tedavisi: 5 yillik retrospektif bir degerlendirme

Özet
In this retrospective study we aimed to call the doctors' attentions, who had not studied in pain treatment area, to Analgesic Ladder Treatment by presenting the practical results of this treatment which was recommended by WHO and was known long ago. We evaluated retrospectively the results of the pain treatments administered to 287 oncological patients who were admitted to our clinic with pain complaints. We determined the rates of the subjects, who were treated successfully, as 83.97%. The rates of subjects who were treated by using Analgesic Ladder Treatment, epidural catheter application, and other invasive and non-invasive methods were 76.65%, 4.62% and 5.55%, respectively. The rate of the subjects who suffered from unwanted effects related to the drugs used was 17.47%. As a result we concluded that great part of the subjects could be treated, without requiring any other methods, by using only Analgesic Ladder Treatment of WHO and by administering appropriate analgesics and adjuvants in appropriate oral doses determined for appropriate subjects.
