Özet

In this study, we investigated the effects of pentoxifylline at a dose of 400 mg b.i.d. orally for three days on blood viscosity and erythrocyte deformability in 10 patients with type II diabetes mellitus. Blood viscosity before and after pentoxifylline administration was found to be 3.59 ± 0.63 and 3.19 ± 0.5 centipoise, respectively (0.10 > P > 0.05). While the deformability index was 25 ± 1.7% per minute before the treatment, it reached to 29.12 ± 1.6% per minute after the treatment (p < 0.01). In conclusion, we determined that trental administration for three days was effective on the erythrocyte membrane, though it was incapable or reducing blood viscosity.
