Özet
Propofol, an agent frequently administered in induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia, sedation of intensive care unit patients, as an adjuvant agent for regional anaesthesia has been prepared as lipid-water emulsions. In this study, alteration in serum lipids were comparatively analysed in 20 patients receiving propofol as a single induction or as total intravenous anaesthesia (TIVA). VLDL levels were significantly higher in propofol infusion group 15 minutes after the infusion was stopped. In the propofol induction group serum VLDL levels were significantly lower 24 hours postoperatively compared to the preoperative and 15, 30 minutes after the induction values (p<0.05). Serum total lipid, cholesterol, triglyceride, lipoprotein (HDL, LDL) levels did not change significantly at measured intervals. In conclusion, propofol induction can be safely administered to patients without lipid metabolism disorder, however during TIVA with propofol in atherosclerotic patients or patients with lipid metabolism disorder serum lipid levels must be monitored.
