Özet
The aim of this study is, to investigate the risk of cardiovascular disease in cases detected breast arterial calcification at screening or diagnostic mammography, by measuring the karotid intima-media thickness and coronary calcium scores. 69 women who were admitted to GATA Haydarpaşa Teaching Hospital Department of Radiology, between June 2009 and April 2012, and who were underwent screening or diagnostic mammographic study and detected arterial calcification, were included in the study. Background and family history of the cases investigated in terms of cardiovascular risk factors. Biochemical lipid and sugar profiles were recorded. Carotid intima-media thickness was measured bilaterally by ultrasonography and multidetector CT for assessing coronary calcium burden was shot. In this study, no significant correlation was found between the coronary calcium burden, an indicator of coronary artery disease and cardiovaskular risk factors such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia, tobacco use and postmenopausal years. But a statistically significant relationship between coronary calcium burden and diabetes and age, and between carotid artery plaque burden and age. Also between the presence of carotid artey plaque formation and especially right-sided intima-media thickness, a statistically significant relationship exists, but no significant correlation was found between left-sided intima-media thickness. it was concluded that the evaluation of breast arterial calcifications as a marker of aterosclerotic cardiovascular diseases will not be accurate.
