Özet
Changes in any tissues due to injury are evaluated as a spectrum that differs according to tissue types. This spectrum is very narrow in some tissues such as peripheral nerves. However, skeletal muscle shows a wide spectrum of histopathological changes when exposed to injuring agents. Different specialised techniques are used during the histological procedures of muscle and nerve biopsies. In this chapter, the freezing, cutting, and staining processes of muscle and nerve biopsies in the pathology laboratory are explained in detail. In addition, the staining principles of commonly used histochemical, enzyme histochemical, and immune histochemical stains; specific to muscle and nerve biopsies, the preparation of dye solutions, and the staining method are explained in detail. Electron microscopic procedures are also explained herein.
