Özet
Urinary incontinence is an important health problem that affects the physical, social, psychological and sexual life of the human. In our community, the prevalence of urinary incontinence in the population aged over 65 years was determined 21.5% in men and 57% in woman. Although the urinary incontinence is considered a geriatric problem, the changing prevalence in women aged 20 years or older was reported to be 53%. The urinary incontinence can physically lead to skin lesions ranging from maceration and irritation of skin to decubitus ulcers. Therefore, in order to prevent the occurrence of complications, nursing interventions against the moisture, skin pH, microorganism growth and friction, which are the risk factors of damage in skin integrity, should be implemented. This care should include interventions to protect skin integrity as well as a good hygienic education. In parallel to the advances in science and technology, many products have been developed for the skin care. Nurses, who care for the patient, are expected to decide on the best skin care product while planning for the nursing intervention. Thus, they should know the products, do critical thinking and transfer the knowledge to practice. In this article, the skin problems that may develop in patients with urinary incontinence, the skin products that are used for its treatment and nursing interventions were emphasized.
