Özet
Various theories have been developed so far to explain Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). However, evaluating the psychopathology of OCD by psychic or organic etiology within a dualistic approach will be restrictive. It is still not fully explained that which brain regions are affected in OCD in relation to the obsessions and compulsions. However, all of the recent neurobiological research suggested a dysfunction in circuits that are connecting the prefrontal cortex (orbitofrontal and cingulate cortices) to the limbic area, the basal ganglia and the medial thalamus. In this review article, OCD will be evaluated from the psychoanalytic approach to neurobiological approach in terms of the historical development.
