Özet
Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between gluteus medius (GMed) muscle strength, anthropometric characteristics, balance, and jumping performance in elite female handball players. Thirty-nine (24.15 ± 6.47 years) elite female handball players were included. Equipment and methods: GMed strength was assessed via handheld dynamometer; horizontal jump performance by using the single leg hop test (SLH) and vertical jump performance (SLVJ) by the VertiMetric. The Stork Balance Test (SBT) and Y Balance Test (YBT) were used to evaluate static and dynamic balance, respectively. Results: There was a significant moderate relationship between the GMed strength and SLVJ scores in both sides (r = 0.389–0.469; P < 0.05). The only significant strong correlations were found between GMed strength and anterior parameter of YBT in both sides (r = 0.535–0.656; P < 0.05). There was no relationship between GMed strength and SLH, SBT scores in any sides. Conclusions: The results of the present study indicate that GMed strength is associated with the only anterior reach of dynamic balance and jumping performance; therefore, it is recommended to include GMed muscle strengthening exercises in the training programs of handball players to improve performance and reduce risk of injuries.
