Özet
The cells in the human body are exposed to various endogenic and exogenic toxic substances which have the potency to cause genotoxicity. Genotoxicity may result in chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer disease, cancer and aging. Because of this, the detection of genotoxicity is very important. Micronucleus (MN) is defined as the small nucleus that forms whenever a chromosome or its fragment is not incorporated into one of the daughter nuclei during cell division. It is concluded that MN assay can be used for risk prediction, screening, diagnosis and treatment of various chronic diseases. In this chapter, the applications of micronucleus assay will be discussed.
