Özet

Rocuronium is a new non-depolarizing blocking drug that has recently gained popularity. We searched if rocuronium with its rapid onset of activity could be an alternative to succinylcholine. 40 patients assigned for elective surgery were divided into two groups randomly. All were given 6 mg/kg IV thiopentone and rocuronium group patients were given 1.2 mg/kg rocuronium IV while the succinylcholine group patients had 1 mg/kg succinylcholine IV intubated after 60 seconds. Intubation quality was assessed and TOF measurements were recorded. Systolic and diastolic arterial blood pressure, heart rate and SpO2 measurements were noted with the control measurements before intubation; and 1, 3, 5 minutes after the intubation. A significant increase of systolic and diastolic arterial pressures were observed 1 minute after the intubation in both of the groups when compared with the control measurements (p<0.01). In rocuronium group, a significant increase of heart rate was noted before intubation, 1 and 3 minutes after the intubation (p<0.001). Intubation conditions were good in 3 patients it was and it was excellent for the rest in both of the groups. TOF values synchronized with intubations showed 85 % and higher degrees of muscular blockage. As a conclusion, higher dose of rocuronium, with a longer duration time, can be an alternative to succinylcholine for a rapid and comfortable intubation without any side effects of succinylcholine.
