Özet
OBJECTIVE: To compare the results of hysterescopic endometrial ablation and a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device in abnormal uterine bleeding. STUDY DESIGN: Endometrial ablation was done with roller ball in 25 cases (First group), and a 20 μg levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device was introduced in 14 cases (Second group). A scoring system was used to determine the decrease in bleeding amounts and the patient satisfy from the treatment was investigated. The initial and 12th month blood Hb, Htc levels were measured in order to find the treatment success. RESULTS: There was a significant decrease between the initial and 12th month bleeding scores in both of the groups (p〈O.05). In the first group there was a patient satisfaction in bleeding amounts in 23/25 cases (92 %), in which 8/25 (32 %) of this group became amenorrheic. In the second group, the same ratios were 11/14 (78 %) and 3/14 (21.4 %) respectively. While there was a significant increase between the initial and 12th month Hb-Htc levels in the first group, this significancy was found only in Hb levels in the second group (p〈0.05). CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine device may be an alternative to endometrial ablation in abnormal bleeding cases.
