Özet

Hemangiopericytoma (HPC) is a soft tissue tumor with a characteristic vascular pattern thought to be pericyte in origin. It is most commonly seen in pelvis, retroperitoneum and proximal extremities. Renal HPC is quite rare and a total of 41 cases have been reported in the literature. Diagnosis of HPC is not specific and differential diagnosis is quite extensive. The fact that pericyte differentiation has been indicated in very few cases, disaggreement among pathologists and the new concept of non-pulmonary solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) have made the diagnosis of HPC contraversial. In this study, a case of HPC located in the right kidney in a 28-year-old male patient was presented. A mass lesion was detected in the kidney incidentally and was suggested as mesenchymal tumor in intraoperative frozen examination. Histopathologic examination of the 4.5 cm solid lesion located in the renal sinus revealed a solid tumor with hemangiopericytomatous vascular pattern and fusiform-oval uniform nucleus. In immunohistochemical examination, the specimen showed strong staining with vimentin and CD99 and poor focal positivity with CD34. Surgical margins were intact; and relapse or metastasis did not develop during one-year follow-up. Although most renal HPCs exhibit benign histologic properties, prediction of prognosis is challenging and a long term follow-up is required. © 2012 by Türkiye Klinikleri.
