Özet
If postthoracotomy pain is not relieved, it is probable to be faced with impairments in pulmonary functions and tissue oxygenations and serious complications. This study has been performed in 30 cases, undergone elective thoracotomy in order to discover the effect of epidural analgesia in postoperative period. In group I, Dipiron sodium a nonsteroid antiinflammatory drug, was administered 0.5 to 1.0 gr. intramuscularly or orally for the relief of pain. In group II, analgesia was provided with a mixture of 100 microgram fentanyl and 8 cc. 125 % 0 bupivacaine through the thoracal epidural catheter. At the end of the study, analgesia, in group II provided by the combination epidural fentanyl and bupivacaine, was more qualified and longer duration than group I. In group II cases, the postoperative respiration function fasts were significantly higher than group I, while pain score and visual analogue scale were significantly lower in the same group (p < 0.05). To improve pulmonary functions, easy inspiration and expiration, clear the airway and get early mobilization at the postthoracotomy period have been made possible by providing continuous epidural analgesia.
