Özet
Lyme disease is a recently identified zoonosis that is endemic in some areas. The disease is caused by the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato complex. There are few Borrelia subspecies that are pathogenic in the human body. Borrelia subspecies that cause Lyme disease may also differ between regions. This situation causes the clinical symptoms of the disease to vary between regions. In light of the information available today, its pathogenesis and clinical symptoms are based on two main mechanisms. The first is the escape mechanisms of the microorganism from the immune response. The other is the damage caused by the immune response of the host against the microorganism. However, the pathogenesis of Lyme disease is still not fully elucidated.
