Özet
Irritable bowel is a syndrome in which abdominal pain and accompanying stool differences are seen in the absence of organic pathology. IBS is not vital but impairs patients' quality of life. There is no organic pathology in the intestines. It occurs as a result of increased visceral sensitivity in the intestines. Patients are admitted to the IBS clinic with complaints of frequent and recurrent abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation; and it is common in female patients aged 20-40 years. First of all, patients are evaluated in terms of alarm symptoms that may be due to pathological causes. The diagnosis of IBS is a clinical diagnosis. ROME 4 criteria are used in the diagnosis of IBS. Laboratory tests are not required for the diagnosis of IBS. Laboratory tests are used for differential diagnosis. The main symptom in IBS is abdominal pain. In addition, there is diarrhea, constipation, and a mixed type in which both diarrhea and constipation are seen. IBS treatment varies based on symptoms. Patients presenting with IBS symptoms are common in primary care practice. IBS is a chronic disease. Treatment is applied according to the symptom. Fibromyalgia and psychiatric disorders may be seen more frequently in these patients. The disease should be evaluated as biopsychosocial. An effective patient-physician relationship should be established and patient education should be provided. Patients with more severe symptoms should be evaluated for medication and referral to the relevant specialist. It should be aimed to reduce the personal and social effects of IBS.
