Özet

The genus Alhagi (Fabaceae), comprising five species, has been a part of traditional medicine for centuries in some parts of the world, warranting a comprehensive review of its ethnopharmacological, phytochemical, and pharmacological properties. This study aimed to consolidate current knowledge on Alhagi's botanical characteristics, traditional uses, chemical constituents, and biological activities. A systematic literature search was conducted using Google Scholar and PubMed databases, focusing on peer-reviewed articles and authoritative texts. The review revealed that various parts of Alhagi plants have been traditionally used to treat a wide range of ailments. An extensive check of scientific studies revealed 442 compounds across multiple natural product categories, including phenolics, terpenoids, sterols, and alkaloids. Pharmacological studies have demonstrated significant antimicrobial, antioxidant, and gastrointestinal effects, among other biological activities. This comprehensive overview highlights Alhagi's importance in traditional medicine and its potential for future therapeutic applications, while also addressing distribution, botanical features, and safety concerns. The findings underscore the need for further research to fully elucidate the genus's me-dicinal potential and ensure its safe and effective use in modern healthcare practices.
