Özet
Besides motor and sensory loss, the existence of spasticity and osteoporosis can result in serious musculoskeletal complications in the spinal cord injury patients. Musculoskeletal complications can increase disability by hindering the usage of existing functional capacity or by lengthening the rehabilitation procedure. The most common musculoskeletal complications seen in patients with spinal cord injury are recurrent knee effusions, osteoporosis, long bone fractures, joint subluxations, carpal tunnel syndrome, heterotopic ossification and contractures. Musculoskeletal complications must be examined carefully, because they can coexist with multiple complicated medical problems such as long bone fractures and septic arthritis. In this study, we present 4 spinal cord injured cases with musculoskeletal complications, and discuss the effects of those complications on rehabilitation procedure.
