Özet
Lycopene is a carotenoid derived from various plants. There are studies on the health benefits of lycopene in various chronic diseases such as neurodegenerative disorders, due to the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative activities. Since these neurodegenerative diseases, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease (PD), Huntington's disease (HD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD), are associated with oxidative stress and chronic inflammation, lycopene is thought to be effective in these diseases. In addition to its antioxidant effect, lycopene provides neuroprotection by preventing apoptosis, brain edema and synaptic dysfunction. In vitro and in vivo studies have shown that these diseases have a protective effect on their pathogenetic mechanisms, cognitive symptoms and behavioral symptoms. Epidemiological studies have shown that dietary lycopene intake is associated with reduced neoplastic risk. In addition, the neuropathological consequences of the undesirable effects of environmental neurotoxins can be reduced with lycopene. For this purpose, more extensive experimental studies are needed to investigate the neuroleptic effects of lycopene.
