In daily practice, endovenous laser treatment is an alternetive treatment choise in lower extremity venous insufficiency and varices. Even it has generally in higher proportion than surgery in many cases. Advantages related to ablation are; fewer complication and recurrence ratio, smaller procedure duration, no need for general anesthesia, and significant patient comfort. The aim of this study is to investigate the efficiency of the endovenous laser ablation treatment that has recently become popular alternative to surgery, in short and long term period. In our department, between May 2009 and March 2012, 8 women (53.3%) and 7 men(46.6%) who had lower extremity varicose veins were treated by endovenous laser ablation. The patients were recalled for color Doppler examination at 3 rd, 6 th and 12 th month following the ablation day. We observed recanalization in a patient(8.3%). We achieved total ablation in other cases (93.3%). In conclusion, laser ablation treatment in lower extremity venous insufficiency and varices is an effective and safe.
