Özet
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is defined as glucose intolerance firstly recognised during gestation. Maternal hypoglycemia is an important but under-researched condition in patients with GDM. Maternal glucose metabolism exhibit an adaptive and dynamic process thoroughout gestation stages. A net definition for normoglycemia in pregnancy is still problematic. Although a close relationship with low blood glucose levels and small-for-gestational-age (SGA) is considered, the importance of maternal hypoglycemic events is not defined clearly yet. Papers report hypoglycemia with the use of oral antiglycemic agent glyburid and insulin during pregnancy. New analogue insulins including insulin lispro, insulin aspart, and insulin detemir seem to cause less hypoglycemic events compared with human insulin and neutral protamine hagedorn.
