Özet
In our study, we aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of tropisetron, a new 5-HT3 receptor antagonist in prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting. 30 adult women undergoing major gynecologic operation were divided into two groups. 15 minutes before the end of operation, placebo or 5 mg of tropisetron IV were given to Group I and Group II, respectively. In postoperative follow-up the antiemetic efficacy of tropisetron was found to be significantly higher than placebo in both 0-2 hours and 2-24 hours (p < 0.05). During the follow-up period, rate of emesis was 80% in Group I and 20%) in Group II (p < 0.05); and rate of nausea was 85% in Group I and 33% in Group II (p < 0.05). As a result, we concluded that postoperative nausea and vomiting could be prevented effectively by using 5 mg of tropisetron.
