Özet

Epidural analgesia is widely used to relieve pain for childbirth. Analgesia was maintained continuous or intermittent injections of drugs through the epidural catheter. This study was undertaken to compare the two methods of administration, with regard to efficacy, safety and side effects. In the study 20 ASA I and II patients were randomly allocated to two groups. Patients in group I (continuous infusion group) (n = 6) received 8 ml of 0.125 percent bupivacaine per hour by continuous infusion using pump. Patients in group II (intermittant injection group) (n = 6) received 8 ml of 0.25 bupivacaine per hour by bolus injection, sensory levels, degree of motor blockade were assessed. Hemodynamic data, mode of delivery and apgar scores were recorded. In our data, analgesic efficacy, degree of motor blockade and mode of delivery were superior in continuous group than those in intermittant injection group. No significant decrease was seen in apgar scores and other complications. In conclusion, in methods providing epidural analgesia for labour, continuous infusion methods provides better quality and continuous analgesia and have less side effects than intermittant injections.
