Özet

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the Gram negative aerobic bacteria and their in vitro antibiotic susceptibilities isolated from hospitalized patients during 1998 using automated blood culture system. Out of 1268 patients suspected having sepsis, 233 were determined to be truely positive according to their culture results giving 154 (66.1%) fermentative (117, 50.2%) and non-fermentative (37, 15.9%) Gram negative bacteria (GNB). All of the fermentative GNB were susceptible with a percentage higher than 80 to imipenem (96.5%), amikacin (86.1%), cefoxitin (83.1%) and ciprofloxacin (82.8%). The non-fermentatives were also susceptible to imipenem (59.5%), mezlocillin (57.1%), ceftazidime (56.8%), ciprofloxacin (55.6%) and amikacin (51.4%). Isolation frequencies and antibiotic susceptibilities of agents causing sepsis should be held in consideration, especially in departments having intensive care unit.
