Özet
Although Brusella endocarditis is a rarely encountered complication of brucellosis it is the primary reason for deaths originating from this disease. A male patient of 58 years of age, who was previously known to have aortic stenosis and mitral insufficiency was admitted to our clinic with such complaints as fever, sweating shortness of breath and weakness. The patient, who was thought to have infective endocarditis. Under the light of physical examination and clinical findings, was diagnosed to have brucella endocarditis by positive Wright serology, positive blood culture and the appearance of vegetations in aortic valve in echocardiogram. Furthermore as the patient's history revealed the consumption of cheese unidentifiable sanitarily, three other members of his family were diagnosed to acute brucellosis and treated accordingly. Although it is suggested that a combination of surgical intervention and medical treatment be generally applied in Brucella endocarditis, clinical and laboratory findings were completely improved in the patient in whom we administered only combined antibiotic therapy for only three months (Trimetopim-Sulfametoxazole + Rifampicin and Doxycycline + Rifampicin). This case was discussed under the light of literature due to the fact that Brucella endocarditis is quite rarely encountered and that the patient was improved only by medical treatment.
